The Present Perfect Continuous Verb Tense Explained

At the beginning of this school year back in September 2021, one of my students came into my office for the lesson and asked me if I could please explain her the Present Perfect Continuous verb tense. It was the first of three similar requests all that week. So, I explained her the verb tense. Then, I went on to explain it a couple more times later that week. That’s when I knew that I needed to share this with the world.

What makes the Present Perfect Continuous a Challenge to Learn?

The Present Perfect Continuous tense is one of the most expressive verb tenses in English. In your early days of learning English, you learn the difference between the Present Simple and Continuous. But what often happens is that the Present Perfect Continuous is ignored until a year or two later, allowing your understanding and use of the present tenses to set in an incomplete manner.

A Convenient way to learn the Present Perfect Continuous

In my most recent video lesson on the Present Perfect Continuous, I teach you how to both understand and use this tense. In the process, you will get a revision of the Present Tenses to help show you how each tense aspect is different from one another. Yet also, I show you how the Present Perfect tense is comprised of some aspects of the Perfect Simple and Present Continuous tenses.

By the end of the lesson, you will understand the Present Perfect tense and know how to use it in a sentence.

So, get your notebook ready to take notes and enjoy the lesson. Additionally, as I do for most of my lessons, I have created a study guide for you to download and use to give you further explanation and examples on how to use the Present Perfect Continuous tense.
