WFH in 2022 – These 4 Courses teach what you need to know

Let’s face it, because of the global pandemic, WFH (or working from home) has become one of the most recognizable acronyms in today’s work and pop culture. It’s rise a result of the global attempts to live in a new reality whereby work and work culture is being redefined. WFH or working from home used to be a term thrown around by freelancers, bloggers, or content creators. Nowadays, working professionals like yourself have to live in this reality. While the idea of being paid to stay at home might sound like something heaven sent, you still want to be productive and get things done without feeling like you’ve cheated your company, or yourself.

While I rarely work from home nowadays, I used to in the past. Now, I have a private office where I conduct my English lessons so while I do “go” to work, I don’t go to a public place of work with any co-workers. In a lot of ways, my private office is like a WFH setup where I both teach and create content in my home away from home – my office.

Part of my content creation includes making courses for Skillshare. And when I’m not creating courses for the learning platform, I’m also a student and I make a point of watching at least some of the other teachers’ courses every day. And I’m so passionate about it, that I love to tell everyone about it – and that includes you.

Recently, I’ve been watching courses connected with Productivity and Working From Home in order to get some tips to make myself more effective at what I do. If you’re anything like me, you’re probably always looking for tips and insights to be the best you. That’s why I’ve curated a group of Skillshare classes that are awesome for people like you and me. And really, these classes are great if you’re a WFH freelancer, or an employee of a company who works from home occasionally or even on a regular schedule.

WHAT IS SKILLSHARE?

Skillshare is an online community of teachers and their courses and the student subscribers who consume the content. In fact, many of the teachers on the platform, like myself, have started out on Skillshare as students. At some point, you realize, “hey, I can do that too!” and you start making your first course.

Skillshare is a learning model that rivals Udemy but it’s vastly different. See for yourself with this quick comparison:

WHAT CAN I LEARN THERE?

Skillshare has courses on most topics. Here are some examples of what kind of courses you will find on Skillshare:

HOW SKILLSHARE HAS HELPED ME

During the first lockdown of the pandemic, I quickly realized that teaching English person to person and in-company was at risk, not only during the pandemic, but also for the future of my business. Rather than be depressed or give up and be depressed about not having much to do I thought about how I could use my new “free” time. I decided I wanted to learn a new way to present my teaching and express myself using video lessons.

Therefore, I signed up for Skillshare’s free trial so I could learn how to make my own videos. Initially, I had all the time in the world to concentrate on learning how to use PowerPoint to create my screencast videos. Yet, I didn’t want to waste a second and I’ve been really productive since I started out making my own courses. Now that the bulk of my business has returned, I find managing my time a little more difficult as I can no longer get into the Deep Work State like at the beginning of the pandemic. Nowadays, I have to juggle between teaching and content creation, so I have dedicated more of my Skillshare watch time to productivity courses. As a result, I have curated a list of Productivity Courses I feel anyone who works from home – employed or freelance – could benefit from.

THE STARTING POINT

With your free trial to Skillshare, you basically have one month to consume as much learning content as you possibly can, so I’ve gamed out a plan I think will work for you. Your first stop on the journey is Home Office Interior Design: Work from Home Like a Boss by Ana Marcu. I chose this class as your starting point because it all begins with your ideal working environment. Working from home differs in so many ways from working in an office in that the challenges and distractions are different.

Ana Marcu is an architect by trade and her course will get you thinking about your WFH environment like an architect. She will take you through so many ideas and insights how to make your space ideal for you.

THE NEXT STEP IN LEARNING

The next stop on our learning train is Work From Home: How to Get 2X More Done, Become Productive & Stay Organized by Bryan Anze Bolt. There’s no need for you to go out and buy the latest book or get an audiobook about productivity. This course from Brian covers most of the popular ideas and theories about work and productivity and he does so from the perspective of working from home.

THE THIRD STEP IN LEARNING

Stop 3 on your learning train is the course Work from Home as a Creative by Amarilys Henderson. This course was made with Creatives, Freelancers, Bloggers, Artists, Content Creators, and Solopreneurs in mind. If you fall into one of these categories, this is the course for you. It’s loaded with tips how to get the best from yourself in your work from home mindset and time managing skills.

THE LAST STOP IN THE LEARNING PLAN

The final stop on our learning train is Remote Work for Professionals and Managers: Work from Home or Anywhere by Mary Daphne. This class is more for Professionals and Managers as the title says, yet I feel it also has a lot for creatives and freelancers as well.

You can treat courses 3 and 4 on this curated list as an either or. If you’re a working professional who now has to work from home on occasion, the fourth course is more from you. If you are a creative, watch the third course, then browse course four on this list for the most relevant parts for yourself.
