Welcome to my blog and review of Create Infographic Video with PowerPoint by Paul N on Skillshare. You found this post probably because you’re interested in learning how to use PowerPoint to make animated videos. The course can be found on Skillshare, and you are likely wondering if it’s worth it to join and learn the skills you need to achieve your dreams.

If that is indeed why you’re here, let me first make a disclaimer that I am both a student and teacher on Skillshare. I started out on Skillshare as a student who wanted to learn how to use PowerPoint to make educational videos. I’d wanted to take my English teaching to YouTube, and I wanted to do so by using graphics and animations to convey my teaching ideas visually. I most definitely have achieved that goal as now I have a YouTube channel in addition to the 7 courses that I have published on Skillshare itself. I’ll speak a little more on Skillshare later, but first, allow me to jump right in with what you’ve come for – the review.

About the Instructor

The instructor, Paul N., is a PowerPoint guru if you ask me. He has a successful YouTube channel called Business Disrupters and it is apparent that he uses all his PowerPoint skills to create beautifully designed animated videos about successful (disruptive) business models. I recommend you check out some of his videos. Not only will you learn some interesting bits about popular companies, but you will also get an idea as to how you can use PowerPoint for your own videos.

KWLT Review Layout

When I do a review, I like to follow the KWLT format. KWLT is an acronym that stands for:

  • What do I already know?
  • What do I want to know?
  • What did I learn?
  • What can I tell another about it?

As an English teacher, I sometimes use this technique with my students when reading a text or listening to an audio presentation. Personally, I think it’s a great way to share a brief review about a course and let people know if it’s worth watching or not.

The image shows my video course review of Create an Infographic Video in PowerPoint. In the post I show how useful the course was for me, and how you can find the video to watch.

What did I know before the course?

Paul’s course wasn’t my first PowerPoint course. I had taken another of his courses some time before when I was just beginning to learn about PowerPoint. So, by the time I had taken this course, I could already consider myself proficient with PowerPoint. I had already started my YouTube channel and produced several courses on Skillshare using PowerPoint to a high level.

What did I Want to know from the course?

This course was very specific to my needs. As an American native speaker English teacher living in Poland, everyone I meet are constantly asking me why I came to Poland. I thought I should make an About Me story and put it up on both my channel and website as my video About Me story.

What did I learn taking the course?

What I learned did not disappoint. Paul had expertly crafted his course and explained all the design elements in an easy-to-follow manner.

He shows you the initial design, and how to create all the elements perfectly. Even as an adept PowerPoint designer, I still struggle to create curved lines and objects in PowerPoint although with Paul’s instruction, I easily managed to duplicate the design and apply my own personalization to the final output.

What can I tell from my Experience with the course?

I can tell you that the class was 100% worth my time, and if you’re looking to master a timeline presentation design, this course is a great choice. The course does exactly what the title says – it will help you create an Infographic timeline video using only PowerPoint.

So, if you were wondering if Skillshare can help you learn the skills you need to achieve your goals, I would say you will be well served by joining.

You can probably find the same course on Udemy as most teachers (apart from me) put their courses in both places. However, what I like about Skillshare is how I have endless opportunities for learning with the money I’ve paid. With Udemy, you buy the course and that’s it whereas your Skillshare membership entitles you to watch as many courses as you want during your membership.

Why not give the free trial a try and go on a learning journey?

Since you will be able to watch multiple courses, I might suggest this course as part of a broader learning journey.

Do you want to learn how to use PowerPoint for Graphic Design, Videography, Image Creation, Infographics design, Animation, gif design, Thumbnail creation, and more? Most people only see PowerPoint as a piece of presentation software. Yet, what most don’t realize is that the very fact it comes with design tools to build the presentation from scratch is the very thing that makes it a powerful tool for graphic design. Add in the fact that it comes with an arsenal of animations and visually stunning transitions, and you have the power to create video as well.

There are plenty of courses on Skillshare that you could watch for the various PowerPoint skills mentioned above.

Here are a few PowerPoint Classes to get you started

How About some courses to complement Video-making

Learning PowerPoint for video is just the beginning. You will also need to know how to do the screen recording in addition to performing the video editing. Andrew shows you how to do so in Camtasia and DaVinci Resolve.

You will also need to learn how to make good, clean voiceovers with zero background noise. Andre Angelo shows you his process for working in Audacity.

I encourage you to go on your own learning journey. Even if it’s just for your free trial period, why not take full advantage of the offer and start living out your dreams.
