To put it simply, the best way to learn the Conditionals in English is to learn them all at once. Unfortunately, however, most non-native English learners rarely learn the conditionals this way since the English progression levels place each conditional type at different stages of the learning timeline.
Typically, a student will encounter each conditional after they have learned pre-requisite verb tenses. What that means is that years can go by between a student’s first exposure to a the Zero Conditional and the Third Conditional.
Don’t get me wrong, there is a good reason for this, as English learners acquire their English in pieces compared to native speakers. Therefore, if you have at least learned English to a B1/B2 level, now might be a good time for you to go back and revise all the conditionals at once. This way, you can see them all together in the big picture and differentiate them.
For me, the best way to learn the Conditionals in English is to:
- Learn each conditional type one at a time at the natural stage of progression.
- Revise each conditional type all together with a big picture style course.
- Then go back to each conditional type again and do a deeper study of that conditional in order, finishing with the Mixed Conditionals.
Fortunately, you’re in luck, and I’ve got just the thing for you. If you want to learn to use the three main Conditionals in English (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), please continue reading (see what I did there?), or you can just check out my free Ultimate Guide to English Conditionals blog post.
I’ve made a comprehensive online video course that will teach you everything you need to know about the First Conditional, Second Conditional, and Third Conditional of English.

Each conditional is taught in a graphic and visual way. There are examples for you to study as well as downloadable note-taking aides accompanying each lesson and exercise lesson. Additionally, each conditional is followed by a case study to get speaking practice based on real business situations.
The Online Video Course includes:
- 90 minutes of engaging Video English Lessons

How The Advantages of the course will help You
This course will teach you everything you need to know about the English Conditional clause. One of the best ways to understand the meaning of Conditionals in English is to learn how to understand the inferred meaning in real time. If you can master this aspect of the conditionals, you will:
- Understand how to use Conditionals intuitively (what people are really saying when they use them)
- Be able to use Conditionals Accurately without those Annoying Mistakes
- Be able to Use Conditionals to Communicate Strategically in getting out the right message for each Business Situation
You will Learn the Inferred or Implied Meaning of Each Conditional Type
One thing you will learn in this course is that Conditional sentences are both Explicit and Implicit in meaning.
Implied meaning can be defined as suggestive. It is not directly stated, but the suggestive meaning should be understood by the other person. Therefore, the understanding should take place on two levels:
- Take meaning from what I said
- Take meaning from what I haven’t said
Practical Real Life Uses of the Conditionals
Understanding the meaning of Conditional sentences will take you, the English learner, a long way towards fluency. With this course, you will gain greater fluency in these areas of Business English:
- Negotiating
- Timing and Sequence
- Outlining Consequences and Benefits
- Prevention and Mitigation
- Analysis of Past Situations
Learn the Difference Between the Conditionals
Many English learners ask the questions:
- how many conditionals are in English?
- What are the differences between each type of conditional?
- When to use if vs when?
- Is there a conditional tense?
This course answers all those questions.
It gives you, the student, a deep look at both the grammatical structure and the main differences between each type of conditional.
It also teaches you that conditionals and time conjunctions are grammatically the same. By time conjunctions, I mean that a time word such as before, after, or until that are often thought of as prepositions.
However, these words are actually used similarly to the conditional if or when. Not only will you learn the difference between if and when, but you will also learn all the other ways we use conditionals to link propositions, conditions, and time sequences.
