You know, I really did use to be an avid book reader. As an American expat, I have moved back and forth between Europe twice and each time I’ve moved, I’ve had to leave behind my collection of books. For that reason, I got on board with an E-Reader and buying e-books.
In my early days of teaching English while living in Poland, I would often commute by bus or train from my suburban town on the outskirts of Katowice to the either of two neighboring cities. I would read e-books on my Sony E-Reader to pass the time away. And then I got myself a car. Suddenly, I was no longer in a situation conducive to reading as much.
When you’re an English teacher, you often start early and finish late and reading isn’t exactly what I would do before bed.
So I started out with an Audible subscription and I instantly fell in love with the service. It allowed my to listen to my books in the car on my way to and from my lessons during the day. And on long train trips or flights back to America to visit, an audiobook is a great choice.
If you’re curious about audiobooks but don’t know if it’s right for you, why not try Audible out with a 30-day FREE TRIAL.
What do I get with my Subscription?
You get 2 FREE audio books with your free trial. From there, you subsequently get 1 credit per month to use on any audio book of your choice. Additionally, Audible gives you 2 free selections of Audible Originals to choose from each month. While the selections aren’t from the full list of Audible Originals (Audible selects about 10 titles to present you), you’ll be surprised at how good some of the choices you have to choose from and you can build up your library of titles really quickly.
Another benefit is that you get access to Audio News Articles from The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal included with your membership.
And I’ll let you in on a little secret. Go to cancel your Audible membership before the free trial and tell them that you’ve found a cheaper option or that it’s too expensive and they will offer you a 3-month discount at half price ($7.49). After that, you would be charged at the regular price. So in your first 4 months for about $45 you get a total of 5 books with your Audible credits, plus an additional 6 books with your Audible Originals selections. That’s unbeatable!
With all that said, here are some of the best titles I’ve “read” on Audible. Also be on the lookout for reviews of these books as I plan to go back and add reviews to these titles. Happy Listening!
