As a native speaker English Teacher living in Poland, the most common question I get from my students is “How do I get more practice with English outside the classroom?” I’m going to share a little secret with you – Skillshare!
What is Skillshare?
Skillshare is an online community of teachers and students. It’s really more of a learning revolution and one of the fastest growing platforms for online courses. In fact, many of the teachers on the platform, like myself, started out as students on Skillshare, and then decided to start teaching.
Skillshare is a subscriber model unlike Udemy where you simply buy a course and it’s yours. You pay a monthly subscription, just like Netflix, and you have got full access to ALL their content. I’m talking about over 31,000 courses and still counting.

What can I learn there?
Skillshare has courses on most topics. Here are some examples of what kind of courses you will find on Skillshare:
Why I became a student on Skillshare
During the first lockdown of the pandemic, I quickly realized that teaching English person to person and in-company was at risk, not only during the pandemic, but also for the future of my business. Rather than be depressed or give up and be depressed about not having much to do I thought about how I could use my new “free” time. I decided I wanted to learn a new way to present my teaching and express myself using video lessons.
Therefore, I signed up for Skillshare’s free trial. In that time, I learned hw to master Microsoft PowerPoint to create and design Animated Video Explainer videos. And by July when the lockdown was ending, I had launched my first course on Skillshare!

Here are 4 English Courses you should try today on Skillshare
These are just a few of the many courses Skillshare has to offer. If you are into improving your English, this is a great place to start. No online course can replace in class practice nor real life conversations. However neither does reading books replace actual speaking practice, nor does watching the news or Netflix in English replace actual practice. Think of a Skillshare membership as more targeted practice than these other methods of outside the classroom study. These courses plus real practice can equal real results. Try them out and then come back and leave a comment whether you found these courses helpful for you.
Until next time!
